GERMAN TRENCHES CAPTURED BY FRENCH AND BRITISH
PARIS', July 6. A comtnuniquo states:—The British, supported by French artillery, captured on Monday night several German trenches south-west of Pilkem. There was a hot engagement at Souchez station, which the French hold despite repeated Gorman efforts. Arras was bombarded throughout the night. . We completely repulsed two German attacks on the heights of the Meuse. The High Commissioner reports; — a LONDON. July 6, 3.10 p.m. In Belgium, British troops, supported by French artillery, captured several fresh trenches south-west of Pilkem, east of f he canal. A hot engagement occurred around Souchez, which remained in the hands of the French, despite the repeated efforts of the Germans. Two German attacks at .the saddle south of the ravine atJSouvaux were completely repulsed; likewise two attacks at the Bois lo Protfe, in the region, of Fey-en-Haye, and at the Croix des Games; with heavy enemy losses. The French deny the German successes claimed in the last five days; on the contrary, all attacks in July have been defeated with heavy Josses.”
