Father was a native of the North of Ireland, and after his ordination volunteered for mission work, going to Queensland, where he laboured until his health gave way. lie then came to New’Zealand and was appointed to the Winton parish. When the now parish of Riversdale was formed he was appointed parish priest, hut failing health compelled him to relinquish active duties. _

At the first club night of the 1915 session, of the . Wellington. Orphans'; Club, held in tho Masonic Hnll oil Saturday, night, members bade farewell .to the retiring secretary, Mr 11. A. Keenan, who is severing his connection with tho institution founded by him in 1910. During the evening • tho Hon. A', h. Herdman (chief ornhanl referred to Mr Keenan in tho highest terms.i and said that the sue- . cess of the club was largely due to bis efforts made during the time he had held the secretaryship—since the in-? ceotion of the institution. At‘ the conclusion of the musical programme Mr, Herdman presented tho retirng secretary with a purse of sovereigns as a mark of tho members’ esteem and accompanied the presentation with sonvi congratulatory remarks as to Mr Keenan’s ability, energy, and enthusiasm. Colonel Collins and the Mayor (Mr J. P. Luke) also spoke in a similar strain, and tho recipient suitably responded, expressing bis appreciation of the wav members had supported him. Mr Keenan has been transferred from the head office of the Agricultural Department to its Napier branch, where ho has' been promoted to tho position of district agent. Ho leavea on Thursday. ■
