According to advice received by Superintendent Ellison, the body of an old man 1 has been recovered from the Otaki river about a mile below the town. The body has been identified as that of Wybrants Olphets, seventy years of age, who had' been missing since May 11th. Deceased, who was born at Ballycamild, County Donegal, Ireland, had lately been teaching at a private native school. His father is Sir John Olphet, a County Lieutenant in Ireland. The deceased was at one time chief officer of the Remuera. The response of members of the Karori Rifle dub to the call of the Empire was referred to by the-president, Mr H. Marshal!, at the club’s annual social gathering last evening. Ho stated that twenty-seven members had volunteered for service at the front, and the number was increasing. Fifteen of those who had offered themselves had so far been accepted. They were: —Private J. Carney, wounded in the Dardanelles; J. Hers lake, at present in Samoa; Sergeant J. FanJknor and Private L. Grimstone (main expeditionary force). Lieutenant A. Butler and Private A. Caldwell (3rd Reinforcements), Sergeant n. S. King (4th Reinforcements), J. Chrystall and P. McLaren (base hospital), E. Smith (sth Reinforcements), A. Calder (Artillery), C. Cimino, Y. Corrigan, C. Downard, and C. G. Aston (acting non-coms, now in camp).
