PERSONAL SKETCHES Captain William Fleming, Otago Battalion, was -burn at Dunedin on 20tli September, 1885, and in August last resided at 35, Hope street, Dunedin. He was a captain in the Bth (Southland) Regiment. Ho is a single man. Lieut. D. J. A. Lyttle, Otago Battalion, was born at YVaikaia on January 28th, 18S3. He is a school teacher by profession, and last served undeithe Southland Education Board. He is a single man, and belonged to the 14th (South Otago) Regiment, in which he was a second lieutenant.Lieut. R. E. Egglestone, Otago Battalion, is a native of Lawrence, Otago, 25 years of age, a telegraphist by occupation, and piaor to joining the expeditionary force resided at 135, Cargill street, Dunedin. He is a single man, and was a second lieutenant in the 4th (Otago) Regiment. Captain Fred Waite, New Zealand i

Engineers, is 30 years of age, being a native of Dunedin. He is a farmer by occupation, and a married man with one child. He was major of No. 2 Field Company, , New Zealand Engineers, Dunedin, and went away with the expeditionary force as_a captain. Captain A. B. iMorton, N.Z.S.C., w-ho is reported to be missing, was formerly officer commanding No. 1 Area Group, Auckland, and served in the South African war, 1901-2, receiving the Queen’s medal with five clasps. Second Lieutenant W. G. Skelton, of the Canterbury -Battalion, who was killed in action, was born at Christchurch on August ll*th, 1893. In August last ho was a clerk in the employ of the Christchurch Tramway Board He was single", and prior to joining the expeditionary force was an officer id the Senior Cadets. Lieut. J. S. Reid, Otago Battalion, who was killed m action, was a native of Dunedin, being born in 1893. He was a law clerk by profession, and resided with his father at Roslyn, Dunedin. Ho was a lieutenant in the 4th (Otago) Regiment, and previously had served in the Otago Boys’ High School Cadets for three j-ears. Lieut. H. L. Richards, Otago Battalion, who is reported as wounded and missing, has a brother serving in No. 3 Battery, N.Z. Field Artillery Brigade, now at the front. Ho was born at Auckland on July 14th, 1891, was a commercial agent by occupation, and was last employed by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd. In August, 1914, he was a lieutenant in the 14th (South Otago) Regiment. He is a single man. Captain Donald Simson is a brothei of Mr J. A. Simson. of Bray Bros., Wellington, and a son of Mr H. N. Simson, Remuera road, Auckland. He served in the South African War, Btu contingent, as a lieutenant, and was previously in the Seddon Horse, and afterwards was m business in Johannesburg, where he became a member of the Town Council. He was making a business visit to London when the war started, and he immediately joined Iving Edward’s Horse Division, being subsequently transferred to the New Zealand section in the Dardanelles operations. A private cablegram received in Wellington yesterday stated that Captain Simson expects to leave for New Zealand next month. Major- George Mitchell served as a private in the first contingent in South Africa. He was major of tho Bth (Southland) Regiment.
