TARANAKI v. MANAWATU. Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, July 23. The Taranaki Rugby representatives met Manawatu to-day, in the presence of about 1500 people. The ground was in fair order. The visiting forwards played a fine game, and the backs defended well, so that the game was very even until the last fifteen minutes, when Taranaki scored two tries, converting one. The first spell ended with the scores 3 points each, the final result being Taranaki 11, Manawatu 3. Tries were scored for the winners by Robinson, Bertrand, ind Kissick, Stohr converting one; and for the losers by Carroll. The Ranfurly Shield was not competed for.
