Mrs Carmen’s negro maid says that after the shooting she met her mistress ascending the stairs. The sheriff received an anonymous letter purporting to be written by a nurse, saying that the writer fired the shot, and adding ; “ I meant to get Carmen. Ho knows why. I will got him yet.” On July 9th Mns Carmen was arrested in connection ..with the death, of Mrs Bailey, who was found shot in the rooms of Dr Carmen (Mrs Carmen’s husband), a fashionable, doctor. It was reported that there was a revulsion of feeling in America in fvauor of Mrs Carmen. It was considered that she was intimidated by Detective Burns. The sheriff who arrested her wept as ho apologised for doing so. :
