REECE TO VISIT WELLINGTON. , Now Zealand is fortunate in having another visit from that versatile billiard professional, Tom Reece, who is duo to arrive in Wellington on August 12th. His stay,, however, is to bo only for three weeks, as his engagements in California commence early in September. Therefore, Messrs Alcock and'Co., Ltd. (under whose auspices hd is touring), are only able to arrange engagements in the North Island. Reece is sure of a warm welcome from the numerous friends he made in New Zealand when he was hero two years ago. A strong and pleasing personality, combined with exquisite pose and dainty manipulation at the table are strong factors in'the Lancastrian’s favour. He may not bo as great a point-maker as the world’s champion. Inman, but as a stylist, Reece is away ahead of the English champion, and in exhibition billiards stylo <jalways counts. During his first game with Fred Lindrum at Melbourne, Recce created a new Australian record for nursery cannons, making four runs of 25 ball to hall cannons, tho number allowed before contact with cue ball and a cushion has to be made under the rules. This run' was included in a 303 break, counting 103 consecutive cannons (205 points) with 97 from other strokes. Messrs Alcock and Co., Ltd., are again getting busy with forthcoming tournaments. Tho principal of these will be the ladies’ contest, commencing on August 3rd. This tournament, being the first of its kind that has ever been held in Now Zealand, should create considerable interest, and it will be rather novel to watch the ladies’ stylo and ideas on the green cloth. Next comes the Crystalato Cup. This annual fixture, «o much looked forward to among tho amateur cueists, starts on the 17th inst. Record entries are anticipated, and Messrs Alcock and Co., Ltd., are out for making this year's tourney a greater success than has ever been achieved in the past. A markers’ tournament will bo held in September, The date, however, has yet to he settled. " This competition will be only for .bona fide markers of either clubs or saloons, and the professional men should get busy, practising for the event.
