No less than three horses were submitted to auction at Gisborne during tho race meeting. Gazette was passed in at 100 guineas, Lamsdorff at fortyfive guineas, and Oraanawa was sold to Dir Norman Fulton for fifty-five guineas. It is reported that subsequently 150 guineas was . offered for Gazette.

Edmond Blanc, who gave £39,375 for Flying Fox nt auction in England some years ago, is credited with recently offering £50,000 for the French horse Nimbus. It is stated that several other would-be buyers have made offers for Nimbus, who has not yet finished his racing career. The death is reported from the Segenhoe Stud of the brood mare Otterden, owned by Mr W. Brown. Otterden, who was by Sheen from Spring Morn, by Springfield from Sunshine, was imported to Now Zealand by Mr 0 . G. Stead in 1900, being at that time in foal to Martagon. The result was Martian, who was a good racehorse, and has 'also done well at the stud. Otterden’s first foal-sired in New Zealand was Sun God, and among others she threw was that great little galloper Boniform. At the sale of horses in the estate of the late Mr Stead in 1908, Mr Brown gave 1000 guineas for Otterden, who was then in foal to Multiform. In Mr Brown’s ownership' Otterden lias thrown five foals, but those tried on the turf-by that gentleman have failed to distinguish themselves. B. ■Woottoh had a slice of-bad luck at Epsom (England) on Oaks Day. His horse Bobbin 11. ran a dead-heat with Fer for the Horton Selling Race, hut was disqualified for interfering with the latter. In connection with this race, Wootton complained that Wing (rider of Fer) struck Dick (Bobbin’s jockey) with his whip.
