LADIES’ MATCHES

\ RAMBLERS v. UNIVERSITY. Undoubtedly the best game in the ladies’ competition so far was the meeting on Saturday between Ramblers and University. Keen interest was taken in the match, which was

played before the rain commenced. On the dav. Ramblers should have won, but the" greens, urged by a largo number of barrackers, put up a great fight and managed to make a draw of it. The combination of tho two teams was a treat to witness, both sides playing excellent hockey. One of the best games on the field was played by Miss Newman_ for ’Varsity. On the day’s play, it is not to be wondered at that she was p:cked foi representative honours. For Ramblers, Miss Smith (right inside) and Miss Edwards (bully) both played excellently on the defence. In the first half, Miss Lang—always a darigerous player in the circle—scored a beautiful goal for the blue and whites. Warsity equalised shortly after j>er medium of Miss Blacker, who netted a nicely-judged one. There was no score in the second spell. Mr C. P. McKenzie refereed. SYRENS v. GIRLS’ COLLEGE.

Playing two short, Syrens, after a somewhat uninteresting game, went down to Girls’ College—a well-trained team—by 8 goals to 1. For College, tho Misses Denton, Mackenzie, Morgan and Williamson shone out conspicuously, while Miss McDonnell played a good defensive game for the losers. For the winners, Miss Williamson secured no fewer than 6 points, while Miss Hilda Laurenson netted the remaining two. . Miss M. McDonnell notched Syren’s solitary score. Mr Loader was referee. JUNIOR.

By no means an uninteresting display of hockey was provided by Girls’ College and Ramblers. Both sides showed lack of shooting ability in tho circle, but this can be remedied with a little more coaching. For College, Miss E. Geddis (right inside), Miss F. Mclndoe, Miss Arnold, Miss McKelvie, and Miss Cameron (in goal) played well, while for Ramblers, Miss Nash (inside left), Miss Jordan, and Miss Reece were prominent. A word of commendation is due to the good Spectacular play of Miss P. Mather on the College left wing. College won by 3 to love, the scorers being tho Misses Geddis, Macindoe, and Mather. Mr L. Boyd was referee. University played a drawn game with Technical College—one all.
