A VISIT TO THE NORTH.

An interesting visit to the. fruit land areas in the Kaipara district. Noxtn Auckland, recently purchased by a wellknown fruit laud development association. through Messrs J.T. Horn, Ltd., of Panama street Wellington, has just been accomplished by Mr W. A. Boucher, Assistant Director of Orchards to the New Zealand Government, and Mr W. U. Thompson, Government Orchard Expert for the Auckland District. In commenting on his visit. Mr Boucher says: “I can recommend this country for the cultivation of export ar-lies. The soil is similar to that w-here most classes of fruit have been continually successful.” Mr Boucher further recommends a repetition of Nelson orchard methods, by the continual cultivation of the land. Mr Thompson, whose local knowledge of fruit lands is varied and of great value, says; “The Komiti fruit lands consist of shallow valleys excellently sheltered from the westerly wind hv high cliffs at the extreme western end.” “The soil,” he says, “is ideal for fruit growing, and will undoubtedly produce gratifying results." These reports only confirm the opinions formed by Nelson experts when visiting the block. Messrs J. T. Horn. Ltd., state that big improvements will shortly be carried out on the land, monopolising a large amount of capital, and it is possible that a limited amount of canital may lie offered to the public to ad'd td that already in hand, so that the block may be thoroughly developed in a proper manner. There can be no doubt that a bright and prosperous future is assured for the fruit settlement so established. —Advt.
