SAD DROWNING ACCIDENT
MAN AND HIS WIFE LOSE THEIR LIVES, Press Association. GORE, July 12. A sad double drowning fatality has just occurred in the Mataura river. Mr Thomas F. Goldie, farmer at Wendonside, situated twenty-eight miles from Gore, and . wife, both between forty and fifty years of age; visited Cattle Flat, seven miles from Wendonside, bn Thursday evening, and stayed with friends. They left at midnight on Friday in a trap, and had to ford the Mataura river. A party of young men, including two Goldies and a stepson, were going to Balfour to play football at 3 p.m. oa Saturday, and found a smashed trap on the river bank and a loose horse. A search waa made, and the body of Goldie waa found one hundred yards below the ford. Mrs Goldie’s body was found a mile below the ford in a pool of the river. An inquest will be held.
