The auxiliary schooner Houto, which arrived in the stream at Wellington n-t 6 p.m. on Friday from Whangape. berthed at the Clyde quay wharf on Saturday morning to discharge her cargo of 100,000 ft of timber. Captain C. Anderson reports that the Houto crossed out over the Whangape bar at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, thus making the run. from heads to heads in -18 horn's. This it? probably a -record for the run. The vessel was aided by strong, northerly winds, and only used her engine when leaving Whangape aiui when beating up the stream at Wellington. About 18 months ago, the Houto, which has a reputation for smart sailing, making the trip from Dunedin to Kaipara in the remarkably fast time of 52 hours. Yet about five years ago the schooner ' buffeted for 65 days by strong head winds in making the passage fiom Newcastle to Kflipara. The Houto’s cargo is consigned to the Stewart Timber Company, Odlin and Co., and McLean Bros. The vessel will load general cargo at Wellington, and is expected to sail on Wednesday afternoon for Lyttelton. At the latter port the schooner will load produce for Kaipara. Air J. H, Bochfort is mate of the schooner and Mr G. Andrews in engineer.
