This is the cause assigned or the origin of shaving among the Greeks' about the time of Alexander. In other countries the practice was first adopted by military men. Historians mention the alarm in which some Roman emperors lived because of the fear that their barbers might cut their throats. For the sake of concealing a scar on.his throat, the Emperor Hadrian wore a beard. This fact brought tKe custom again into fashion.
