PRODUCERS’ ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF NEW ZEALAND BOARD,

At . a meeting of the New Zealand Board of Control of the Bristol and Dominions Producers’ Association, Ltd., in Wellington, representatives wore present from Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa, and Canterbury. The question of the present method of dealing with rejects by the various freezing works was considered and a definite proposal was approved of for submission to tho members of the association. -

The question of adopting a uniform system of grading of meat shipped to the association throughout the Dominion was also considered and approved of subject to the final approval of tho Bristol, manager; Major Norton, when he arrives in the Dmimon in a few weeks’ time.

1 It was decided that subject to the approval of the Bristol manager. Major Norton, that the association should undertake tho handling of wool through Liverpool, next season, where there are excellent facilities available for receiving and marketing the wool at the Wapping Docks. The consolidated charges for receiving and marketing at Liverpool is about half that at London, being 2s 4d per hale at Liverpool as against 4s 4d and 6s 4d per bale in London, besides which barging and carting are obviated at. Liverpool. And it is considered that there are better shipping facilities for American and Continental markets at Liverpool than at London, and also that Liverpool is very much closer to Bradford, the greatest wool-consummg district in the world, than to London; also there are large sales of Argentine and Indian wool held at L' ver P Qc h The board agreed to a recommendanon by the Bristol board, that in view of the increased volume of business ‘anticipated next season, a further issue of shares of the association be made for Australia and Canada in addition to the 60,000 already authorised to be issued. The New Zealand Board considered that in view of further shares being made available for Canada and Australia, an effort should he made to get further shares placed amongst,New Zealand producers sc as to equalise the control of the association tpr New Zealapd with that of Canada and Australia.

Tho manager reported that a number of account sales for meat had come ■to hand, and in practically every instance the predictions of the association as regards the saving in weight allowance and charges were correct and justified; As an illustration, in one consignment of 420 carcases of mutton there was a nett gam over colonial weights of 6691 b, while there was no deduction made for the usual 21b weight allowance per carcase that is deducted in London, and while the bulk of the meat had been held for about threo months, in cold store, owing to a heavy slump in. the markcp caused by a glut of meat in London, the £otal dock and cold storage charges were only £l4 11s 4d, while the London charges would have been for the same parcel and period, over £36.
