WINTER MELTING. Press Association. ASHBURTON, June 11. The Ashburton Trotting Club's winter meeting eventuated to-day in overcast but lino weather. The course was in firstclass order. Half a mile'from home Frank Wilkes was j ust clear, of Annie K.. and after a good finish; Annie K. Avon by four lengths Able Boy was nearly one hundred yards behind. The race was a pretty one for the first mile and u half, but going down the back stretch Tommy C. went to the front, and easily holding his position, Avon by ten lengths. After an interesting; race Prince Poole and Little Arthur were racing together one hundred yards from home, av hen Mandarene came witha great rush on tho outside and won .by a head from Prince Poole, who was a neck in front of Little Arthur.
