SHEEPBREEDERS' ASSOCIATION

ROMNEY MARSH SECTION,

The New Zealand Romney Marsh Sheep Breeders’ Association will hold their annual meeting at the Manawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s committee room, Palmerston North, on June 18 th.

The annual report congratulates members on the continued advancement of the association. Th'e balance at bank stands at £230 3s 3d, and the sum of £531 13s 6d is placed on fixed deposit, miking a total of £761; 16s 9d, the excess of income over expenditure for last year being £l6O 11s Id. The number of-registered flocks now stands at 301, while 44 new flocks have been admitted by the council, and these will appear in volume 10 of the flock book, now in course of publication. The championship shields, donated by the: association, were presented for competition at the Auckland and Canterbury A. and P. Associations, while the Wheeler Memorial Shield was competed for at the Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Society’s jubilee show last year. The, council, in co-operation with the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. -Association, New Zealand Sheep Breeders’ Association, and New Zealand Hereford Cattle Breeders’ Association, subscribed to , a fund raised to place a memorial tablet on the G. C. Wheeler pavilion at Palmerston North’. A joint committee was set up to carry , out the details in connection with same. The second annual ram fair, held under the auspices of this association, was conducted at Feilding in February, 1913, and while the number of entries was slightly under those of the first sale, the quality of the rams offered was firstclass. It has been suggested that the association should, send a representative collection of Romney wool to be exhibited at the Panama Pacific International Exposition, _ which opens at San Francisco early in 1915; with this end in view, a circular has been sent to all members on the subject. In accordance with the rules the following members of the council retire by rotation:- —Messrs H. V. Fulton, A. E. Harding, J. Kebbcll. D. Murray, and W. Perry, all of whom are eligible for re-election. A special general meeting will be held after the annual meeting for the purpose of adopting as rules of the association the resolutions passed at the last annual meeting regarding, shearling ewes and the number of members that shall form a quorum. The following notice of motion by Mr E. Short will be also considered: -—"That rule 43 be .amended to read as follows: —‘All registered ewes sold, except those already tattooed N-Z.R.M. by inspectors appointed by the association, must be inspected, reported upon and approved by the council before transfers are recorded in the flock book, and the cost of such inspection he borne by the vendor.’ ”
