ESPIONAGE CHARGES
ELECTRICAL FITTER CHARGED.

J' LONDON, June 2
Samuel Maddick, an electrical fitter at the Portsmouth Dockyard, was charged with espionage. A detective said that when he arrested accused . the latter had admitted that ho purposed shortly going to Ostend to meet the agent of a foreign Power, but denied being possessed of secret information.

JOHANNESBURG BUILDER ARRESTED.
BERLIN, June 2. Mr Mackenzie, a Johannesburg builder, was arrested on a charge of espionage near Dortmund, but was immediately released. A gendarme explained that lie had arrested Mr Mackenzie, suspecting him of espionage because he was a Briton.
