No less than 542 experimental plots have been put down during the present season in districts north and south of Auckland, Thames, and Tanranga. Mr G. de Baylis, fields in-, structor for the North Island, in a report presented to the provincial executive of the New .Zealand Farmers' Union, states that lucerne was grown in 113 plots, maize in 48 plots, mangolds in 34, silver beet in 23, millets in 30, pasture renovation in 14, carrots in 14. and grass varieties in ,26.
