NEW PICTURE THEATRE

CHRISTCHURCH, May 21. Christchurch is to have a new picture theatre. The prospectus of a company to be known as the Now Colosseum, Ltd., has been filed with the Registrar of Companies. An agreement lias been entered into to obtain the option to purchase that area of tho corner of Cathedral Square and Chancery lane, with a frontage on Cathedral Square of 64ft 4in and on Chancery lane of I32ft, also another parcel 15ft by 20ft. It estimated that tho land will cost in tho vicinity of £IO,OOO. Upon this land a theatre is to be built capable of holding 1200 pooplo_ comfortably seated. The building will bo thoroughly up-tedate and equipped in tho most modern manner. The great success that has attended similar ventures in the city is considered by tho promoters to warrant the expenditure. Tho capital of the now company will be £16,000, in 15,000 shares of £1 each, of which 2000 are to bo fully paid up and 13,000 offered for subscription. It is not contemplated that more than 11,000 will bo required to he called up. The directors of the now company are Colonel C. J,. Cooper, Dr N. A.
