At tlie opening of the Supremo Court sessions Mr Justice Edwards congratulated the grand jury on tho continued immunity of the district from serious crime. There were only two criminal oases on the list —against William Ogicr for embezzlement and against Arnold Victor Smith for breaking, entering, and theft —in both of which true bills were returned. William De Grouchy Ogier, found guilty on six charges of embezzling the funds of the Inglewood Borough Council and Moa Road Board, to which he was clerk for years, the amount of the defalcations being over £SOO, pleaded financial difficulties due to drink. The, jury recommended him to mercy f~- ihe grounds that ho bad repaid the money. Sentence was deferred*
