PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS

CONTRACTORS MAKING STEADY PROGRESS.

The contractors for the new Paxlia. moot Buildings _ (Alessrs Hansford, Mills, and Handle) are progressing with their work steadily. In. a few days now, the public will see a marked difference in the work, as a start will he made with laying the granite for the first floor_ of the buildings. Mr Ha.nt.fard told a “Times” representative yesterday that the gantries for the cranes are now erected, and four 3-ton electric cranes will arrive from Homo in about a fortnight’s time. Those will be placed in position ready for handling the huge blocks of grauite which are a feature of the work. Air Hansford states.that the concrete floor over the whole area ,\vill be started in a day or two, the Concrete being 'mixed by machinery and handled in the most up-to-date manner. There are now about forty men employed on the work, some twenty of whom are stone-masons. The contract is to go on as at first provided for; that is to say. there is to be no attempt to finish the new chamber for the House of Representatives, tho Public Works Department having apparently abandoned the idea, although tho contractors were quite prepared to carry out tho project.
