From Oar Own Correspondent. May 19. An enjoyable concert _ was tendered to the visiting teachers in the Assembly Hall at the Masterton District High School last night, Mr W. H. Jackson presiding. The following contributed items-.—Misses N. Hogg and Aitcheson (musical monologues), Mr G. H. Italpii (pianoforte solo), Mr Just (song), Messrs Fieldhouee and Hake (comic duet), Mr A. B. Charters (Dutch recitation), Mr 11. T. C Davie’s -party (glees). A. lantern lecture was also given by Mr W. C. Davies, of Greytown. A dance was held subsequently. The following additional entries have been received for the Masterton Queen ot the Carnival contest:—Miss Nellie Hogg (nominated by the Wairarapa drovers). Mies Maggie Harley (Arcadian Bevels). Miss Capper (Fire Brigade and kindred societies). Miss E. Hooper (motor trade). Mr J. Herd, senior clerk at the Pahiatua post office, has been promoted to postmaster at Ohakunc. Mr F. G. H. Piesse, of Gisborne, will succeed Mr Herd.
Ten weddings are to take place at Carterton within the next five weeks. Those applicants who drew sections in the Poro Poro settlement are now busy on their holdings erecting building: fencing, etc. The wet weather is delaying the carting of timber to the sections. The Wairarapa senior championship football matches for next Saturday are; lied Star v. Carterton, at Masterton; Gladstone v. United, at Carterton. The interval , race from Blenheim, which was flown by the Masterton club was considerably interfered with by the rough weather only two birds reaching home last night. The winning bird was Mr J. F- B. Sutherland’s "Ttusncus,'* with Mr J. Dixon’s "No Surrender” second.
