Sixty-five entries have heen received by the Masterton Collie Club for the annual dog trials at Te Ore Ore on Wednesday next. In the 'teams match ten entries have been received, in the huntaway twenty, in the short head and yarding competition sixteen, and in the long head competition nineteen entries.

About 5 o’clock on Saturday afternoon a collision occurred at the comer of Renal! and Chapel streets, Masterton, between a motor-car owned by a Palliate a resident and a gig containing Miss Yates, daughter of Mr G- M. Yates, of Upper Plain, and another lady. A portion of the gig was carried away by the motor-car, and both ladies were thrown heavily to the ground. The horse galloped away with the other part of the gig, and subsequently nan into a lamp-post near the W.F.C.A. factory, where the wheels were smashed. The horse continued along Chapel street, and after colliding with a cab at the corner of Lincoln road and Chapel street was secured. The occupants cf the gig escaped with a shaking and a few bruises. The motor-oar was not damaged.

A deputation from settlers in Tinui proceeded to Wellington to-day to urge upon the Prime Minister the necessity of securing the Annedale and Tinui estates for closer settlement purposes. Sir W. C. Buchanan and Mr G. E. Sykes, M.F.'s, accompanied the deputation. On account of the rain on Saturday all football matches in Wairarapa were postponed. The following ladies have been nominated for the Qneen of the Carnival competition, which is to be held at Masterton under the auspices of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society:—Mrs Mutrie (nominated by Wairarapa Caledonian Society), Mrs T'ai To Tau (Masterton Maoris), Miss Reno Hughan (Carterton Bowling Club), Nurse Jones (athletic and sporting clubs), Miss K. M. Howard (Tinui Football Club), Miss OBJ. Leming (Whakataki Football Club). Mr A. J. Cooper, of Masterton, who had been on a visit to Wairoa, Hawke’s Bay, returned on Saturday morning.

The New Zealand championships in Irish water spaniel dogs and heardy collie dogs will be competed for at the next Carterton show.

Tho golf matcli which was to hare been played on tho Taratahi links on Saturday last was postponed on account of tho wet weather.

Mrs Toohill, of Msirtinborough, was taken seriously ill 'last week, and was removed to tho Masterton hospital for treatment.

The following are the leading competitors in the Bkctahnna Queen of tho Carnival contest:—Miss Jane Nilsson, 863 votes; Miss J. McAnuity, 795; Miss H. Knight, 507; Miss A. Algie, 357.

At a meeting of the executive of the Wairarapa branch of tho Farmers' Union on Saturday last, Mr H. Morrison was re-elected president for the ensuing year, Mr i). C. Cooper treasurer, and Air W. McP. Cole auditor. Several cases of diphtheria at Hukanui have occurred during the past week. A case of scarlet fever from Kopuaranga was brought into Masterton on Saturday for treatment.
