PUKEURI MEAT WORKS

WORK PROCEEDING STEADILY. Press Association. OAMARU, May 18. The Christchurch Meat Company’s new works at Pukeuri demonstrate the possibilities of the North Otago district in an agricultural and pastoral sense. Operations commenced in March, and since then, the works have been fully employed. Supplies of stock come forward freely, and the company’s confidence has already been amply justified. Under the old conditions, a largo quantity of stock has been railed away from Oamaru, owing to the company’s inability to cope with it at the old works, the capacity of which was oniy about half that of the new. The slaughtering in one day has already exceeded three thousand, and the weekly slaughtering has averaged . twelve to thirteen thousand.
