WELLINGTON CENTRAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

The monthly meeting of the Wellington Central Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday, the following members being present;—Messrs C. M. Luke (in tho chair), Leigh Hunt, J. W. Brodio, J. F. Atkins, W. Smith,. G. Winder, and A. J. Petherick (secretary). It was reported that the Minister for Agriculture and Chambens of Commerce throughout the Dominion had been written to on the subject of tho re-afforestation of waste lands, but no replies had yot been received. The chambers in the Booth Island had also been "written to regarding the disparity in the railway freights on produce, but no answers had yet been obtained. , _ Tho General Manager for Hallways intimated that he would fix a date for the interview with tho representatives, of the council with regard to a new goods shed at To Are on his return to Wellington. The Department of Agriculture wrott asking for suggestions about tho grading of hemp. It was decided to send copies of the department’s letter to members of the chamber interested in. hemp. It was resolved to eend a copy of tin anomalies in the railway tariff discovered by the chamber to tho Farmers* Union Conference, to meet shortly in Wanganui. A committee consisting of Messrs Luke Winder and Petherick was set up to draft and forward a letter to the Harbour Board urging upon . that body the advisability of establishing a dock in Wellington.
