THE EMPRESS THEATRE

“ The Banker’s Ruse,” a feature drama by the Cines Company, will con. stitute the chief draw in the new programme, to be screened at the Empress Theatre to-day and to-night. The plot represents that a lawyer who is defending a prisoner on trial for murder, entrusts to a banker some documents proving the innocence of the accused. The papers are locked in a safe by the banker, who, however, dies suddenly. The affection which exists between the lawyer and the banker’s daughter causes the banker’s secretary to be viciously jealous. He steals the documents in order to thwart the lawyer. Detective Fox is than put on to the case, and there are some exciting happenings. Other subjects will be “The Mistake” (A.B. drama), “Williamson Weekly” (topical), “The Shadow of the Vosges” (scenic), “ Andy Goes on the Stage ” (Edison comedy), and “ A Water-soaked Hero” (Lubin comedy).
