PANAMA EXPOSITION

EXHIBITS OF PRODUCE Some doubts have been expressed whether sufficient refrigeration space would bo available for exhibits of produce at tho Panama Ex-position. Advice has now been received from the Now Zealand Commissioner at San Francisco, stating that the exhibition authorities will supply ample refrigeration space for all purposes. There will thus be no risk in the case of largo exhibits of fruit, butter, cheese and meats, and those products of the Dominion will be enabled to compete on favourable terms with those of other countries.

It is understood that the entries for live stock need not be forwarded to San Francisco until about September, 1915. This will give stock-breeders abundant opportunity to prepare their animals for exhibition. The competition will not take place until OctoberNovomber,, 1915, and immediately after tho awards have been made, tho live stock may be withdrawn and disposed of as the owners think fit. Tho Government will take the responsibility of disposing of all live stock'in any way the owners -prefer—either selling it or returning it to New Zealand.

Communications from San Francisco state that tho preparation of the grounds surrounding the New Zealand pavilion is now under way. The land is being cax-efully cultivated and laid out in plots. Native trees and shrubs of New Zealand are being gathered together from tho various- sources, and will go forward next month in order to bo planted in good time to be well established before the opening of tho exhibition.

Plans have been drawn up by a leading San Francisco architect for’the New Zealand pavilion, and tenders are being called on the spot by the New Zealand Commissioner. It is, therefore, anticipated that the New Zealand pavilion, in which will be installed a sample display covering the whole range of the production of the Dominion, will shortly be in course of construction.
