Tampico the rebel infantry entered the streets covered by six-inch guns, and drove the Eederals to the centre of the town, slaughtering right and left. No one was given any quarter. Large numbers forded tie river, where many perished. The prisoners captured were immediately hanged. . Villa declares that he will enter Mexico City in six -weeks’ time. President Wilson’s attitude concern'ing Mexico is still criticised. He is regarded as “putting all his money” on the Constitutionalists in the hope that Huerta will fall before the mediators have finished their conference. PRESERVATION OF OIL PROPERTIES. The State Department is making representations to the rebels to preserve the oil properties around Tampico, also to assume responsibility for the protection of foreigners therein. The question is facing tho United States whether, m view of the existence of an embargo against arms, the Constitutionalists shall be allowed, to augment their arms and ammunition by shipments through Tampico. Two Huertan gunboats took refugo under the guns of American warships. According to the State Department’s information, only three hundred people were killed in the capture of Tampico. Two thousand Eederals fled, the Constitutionalists’ guns playing havoc with their defences. The Federals blew up the barracks.
