SPEECH BY SIR GEORGE REID. B/ Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON, May 13. The Sphinx Club banqueted Sir George Redd (High Commissioner for Australia) at the Connaught Rooms. In responding to the toast of his health, Sir George Reid said Australia had never played a larger part in the development of the. Empire than during the past twenty or thirty years. He hoped all the races of the Empire would develop the higher qualities of every part, and become qualified to take their share in Imperial affairs. But, ho added, any such attempt at present would lead to chaos.
