ST. PATRICK’S DAY

St. Patrick’s Day dawns brighter every year for Irishmen tho world over. To-day the national festival will be fittingly celebrated in Wellington, chiefly through the medium of the athletic sports at Newtown Park and tho Hibernian concert in the evening, at the Town Hall, where Paul Dufault, the noted tenor,, will head the programme. In connection with the sports a children’s gathering will take ■place in. the moxfiing, and the meeting proper will commence at 2 p.m. Sir Joseph Ward is to deliver an address at half-past 3. The concert will begin at a quarter to 8, when a selection of Irish airs will he played on the organ by Mr D. A. Kenny. A number of capable artists from different parts of the ‘ Dominion will also contribute items, and items will be given by the Marist Brothers’ choir.. At 9 o’clock in the morning Mass will be said in all the city churches; and at 10 a procession, consisting of Hibernian societies. Catholic clubs, St. Patrick’s College cadets, and the City Band, will leave Boulcott street for Newtown Park, via Manners street and Courtenay place.

In addition to the attractions peculiar to the day there will be the picnics inseparable from a public holiday, and the usual evening amusements.
