LIFE-SAVING
VARIOUS AWARDS MADE,
The New Zealand Royal Life-Saving Society (head centre Wellington) held a meeting in the Y.M.O.A. rooms last night, which was well attended, Mr Oh S. .Hill being in the chair. A letter was received from Mr Brewster, secretary of the Levin Swimming Club, to the effect that the officer.; of the hoys’ training farm (Werarpa) were very interested in the society’s work, and would give every assistance in furthering its aims. Arrangements have been made for examiners to be present at the. Te Aro .baths on Sunday morning next at 8 o’clock in order to examine candidates submitted by the Paekakariki Railway Surf and Life-Saving Club.’ Mr W. J. Wray, of the same club, will present himself for an, instructor’s certificate.
Six members from the Paekakariki Club, who presented themselves for a trophy and the bronze medallion .were, placed as' follows:—Frederick Schai;felberger. 77 points, Robert J. Boyd 74j, J. Sanderson 74J, Alexander A. Fleming 73, and Donald Campbell ,66. They all receive the bronze medallion and the trophy goes to F. Schaufelborger. Mr F. J. Wilson, who competed for the society’s diploma, put up a very good performance, though the conditions were against him, as the day was a boisterous oue. Later he reached 41 feet in the “long plunge” and was successful in the “motionless float” and the “propeller.” As this diploma is the highest award that can he obtained the chairman said they must be very careful in its distribution, and so far there is no holder in the Wellington district. After some discussion it was decided that Mr F. J. Wilson’s records be forwarded to headquarters at London for examination. The following surf and life-saving clubs were granted affiliationlsland Bay, Marist Brothers’ school (Tasman street), and the Catholic Preparatory College (Seatoun). The following is a list of the successful competitors for the . various awards:—Award of Merit.—Malcolm S. Galloway (Wellington). Bronze Meda'llion.—Frederick ,H. Dauks, George E. Williamson, Herbert Easton (Maranui Club), Ernest V. Ellis, Louis C, Dudson (Carterton Club),- and the members of the Paekakariki Club men, tioned previously. Proficiency Certificate.—Ernest V. Ellis, Louis O. Dudikon (Carterton Club), Robert J. Boyd, Frederick! SchaufeToerger, Alexiander A. Fleming, Donald Campbell, John Sanderson, John Cross (Paekakariki Railway Club), Frederick H. In regard to the school boys’ challenge shield, it was decided that the matter he loft entirely in the hands of the four examiners, Messrs Collier, Neal, Somerville, and Ellis.
