Mr J. Robertson, M.P., who is in Wellington just now, intends to deliver political addresses at Levin and Foxton -at an early date. It is authentically stated in the Otaki district that Mr W. H. Field, ox-Liberal member for the electorate, has been chosen as the ‘-Reform” candidate for the seat at the elections this year. Prior to taking the general business •at the Petone Council last night, the Mayor (Mr J. W, McEwan) moved a morion of condolence with the widow and family of 'the late Rev. A. Thomson. Mr McEwan said that the Rev. gentleman was a man that Petone could ill spare. He was of a kindly and tolerant disposition and had fought hard to keep the gates of education open to the youths of the to vn. Councillor Brocklebank seconded the motion, which was passed standing. ; Dr.lS. H. Floranco, who is one of the best-known practitioners in the Rivcrina district in New South Wales, is at present on a visit to Auckland, accompanied by several members of his family. The party has just completed a very extensive tour of the North Island,- including visits to Gisborne, Wellington, Wanganui, Taumarunui, Rotorua, Cambridge, and elsewhere. Dr Florance has also been spending some days in the Waikato renewing acquaintance with places which he last saw fifty years ago, when, with Colonel Newell, in the 3rd Waikato Regiment, he had three years of active service against the Maoris, says the “Star.” The doctor is greaily impressed with the wpnderful development of Auckland city and province during the last fifty years-
