HOTEL ON FIRE
NARROW ESCAPE OF INMATES. Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 16. A fire was discovered iu the Shakespeare Hotel at midnight. The flames hurst through the floor of an attic occupied by two waitresses. There were about thirty persons sleeping in the hotel, in addition to the licensee and the staff. All escaped in their night attire. When the brigade arrived* the flames had burst through the hotel roof, hut were suppressed within a quarter of an hour. Much damage w'as done, chiefly by water.
