Jennings, of the Featherston branch of the Bank of Australasia, was entertained by the Featherston Hookey Club at a farewell social on Tuesday night and presented with a travelling bag as a mark of esteem. Miss B. Herdman, of Carterton, has been appointed assistant teacher at tho Martinborough School. Miss A. d’Emden will succeed Miss Herdman at the Carterton School. Messrs B. Burch, T. Fisher, E. Dunn, and W. Feast have been elected a committee of tho Groytown Working Men’s Club for the ensuing year. Mr E. McDonald, of Pahiatua, has sold his farm, and intends to settle in tho Otaki district. Miss Craig, of Dunedin, has been appointed, teacher at tbo Hopolands School. About forty Territorials will appear before the next sitting of the Masterton S.M, Court, charged with having failed to attend drill. The death occurred at Christchurch yesterday of Mr J. O’Malley, formerly Sergeant of Police at Masterton. The deceased 1 took charge of the police hero about sixteen years ago, and retired on superannuation seven years ago, being succeeded by Sergeant Miller.
