KILBIRNIE BATHS

Three members of the Kilbirnie Municipal Electors’: Association attended yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the baths and reserves committee of the City Council to ask for the extension of the bathing accomodation at the corner of Wellington- and Evans Bay roads. “This is the third time we have Interviewed you on this subject,” said the spokesman, Mr Clark'. They were glad to hear that the committee intended to do something to improve the accommodation, but still more was required. The sheds were now quite open inside, and the only privacy that could be secured was in the shower. This was a matter to be .remedied if possible. Pressing cubicles' should be provided,, one at each end of the shed. At present the dressing: space was quite inadequate. A. very acute need, according to Mr George, is separate provision for juveniles. He urged that it was improper to have boys dressing in the same spate ais men, and girls in the same space .as women; separate • cubicles should be provided for the young people in the respective sheds. Councillor Barber: “Most of the boys dress up bn the hillside now, don’t they?”

Mr George: “Vest” Air Clark also asked the committee to- provide sanitary conveniences in the sheds. ■ The chairman of the committee fCouncillor Frost) said that the committee members were very interested in making proper provision for bathers and round to see for themselves what actually occurred at the sheds. They had found that the Kilbirnie shed was well packed with bathers. It would also be noticed that tho juveniles had to use- the same room as the older people,'which did not seem to be the proper thing. The whole matter had been referred to the city engineer, who inclined to the opinion that the baths at -Kilbirnie were in the wrong place, and that new baths should he erected by the reclamation.

‘•The water is too deep there,” remarked a member, of the deputation.

Councillor Frost said that the engineer’s report ■ would be submitted shortly to the committee, which was determined that something should lie done to improve matters at Kilbirnie as soon as possible.
