The judge’s award was as follows: South Canterbury Regimental, 148 points ; ■; Wanganui Garrison, 147 points ... 2 Auckland Regimental, 146 points ... 3 Wellington Tramways 145, Wellington City 145, Queen Alexandra’s Own (Wanganui) 145- . Other competing bands were n.aikoraT (Dunedin) 144, St. Kilda Municipal (Dunedin) 142, Gisborne City 138, Waihi Federal 137, Auckland Garrison 132 Palmerston North Municipal. The judge, before declaring the position of the bands, said ho had listened to a very fine contest. The same mistake had been made by almost every Band in the Mendelssohn movement which was taken too slowly. He wished to impress on bandsmen that* tone and expression must come first in music.
