Mr Daniel Rivers, one of the, pioneer settlers of Wellington', died at' Hastings on Tuesday morning at the age of eight-four. Deceased arrived in Wellington in the sailing ship Indian Queen in 1857, landing at the site upon which tho present Bank of New Zealand stands. Ho was a prominent resident of the city for fifty years and was known in tho early 70’s as the proprietor of the old Pros, yincial Hotel, in Molesworth street, cow long since demolished. On the decease of his wife, sis years ago, ho went to reside with his son, Mr J. D. Rivers, of Hastings. The body of deceased, who was one of the oldest members of tho Court Sir George Grey' (Foresters) was conveyed to Wellington by rail yesterday for interment in the family vault, at the Bolton street cemetery. Deceased left three daughters (Mrs J. Cattell, of Wellington, and Mrs E. Larcombe and Mrs Emily Cudby. of Lower Hutt), and two sons (Mr Edward Rivers, Marton, and Mr, J. D. Rivers, Hastings).
