NEW MATERNITY HOME
SALVATION ARMY INSTITUTION AT DUNEDIN. Press Association. DUNEDIN, February 11. In November tho Salvation Army purchased tho property known as Redroofs,” at Bishopscourt, to bo used as a maternity hospital. This afternoon the Mayor (Mr W. Downio Stewart) formally opened the institution in the presence of citizens, friends, and supporters. Commissioner Richards, who came to Dunedin in company with the Chief Secretary (Colonel Rowley) also delivered an address. The purchase price of the property was £3600, and they have since spent £4OO in improvements, making a total of £4OOO.- The building is admirably suited for the purpose for which it was acquired, and there are three acres of land round the hospital.. It contains twenty-sis beds for patients. It was announced this afternoon that £1663 had been guaranteed towards purchase of the property, which was acquired to perpetuate the memory of the founder and first general of the Salvation Army —General .William Booth. -
