COASTAL MASTERS’ DISPUTE

an indefinite ADJOURNMENT.

When the coastal masters’ dispute with tho shipping companies came before the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr P. Hally) yesterday, there appeared for tho employers Messrs C. McArthur, \V. Fuller and Beck, with Mr N. Mcßobie as agent. The. representatives of the Merchant Service Guild were Messrs J. W. Crotty and D. Turksffla, and Captain D. J. Watson as agent. . , Mr Mcßobie applied for an adjournment of the hearing of the case. He said that the assessors present tnat day were only temporary, as the employers most concerned were out of town. The employers had been most surprised tbat the demands had been put in at such a time —when tho employers had been in the thick of the turmoil. Even now they had hardly a chance to look after their own business. Mr Beck; “And we’re still in the thick of it.”

Mr Fuller-. “Yes. Two or three meetings a day for most.of Us.” Captain Watson: “The thing has been adjourned now two or three times. liV e don’t feel like letting it go now,” Mr Fuller said that he did not think it was-much uso going into the matter in the absence of Mr Pryor, Mr Rogers, and Mr Bennett. Eventually the dispute was adjourned indefinitely. It will probably be called again early in March. The same course will probably be fol-low-fed irt the officers’ dispute, which is fixed to come before Mr Hally this morning.
