THOENDON CLUB. Last evening the Thorndon Swimming Club decided the preliminary heats of a 50 yards handicap. The bandicapper s efforts resulted in very’ close’ finishes. Details are as follow : First heat—W. E. .King (flsec) 1, 8. Duclson (4seo) 2. Also started —A. Vy. Smith (fisec), T. H- McLean. (4sec), J. Wareham (isec), K. Wiggins (?spcl. Time. 37 2-ssec. A r ar d separated the first and second men. Second heat—S. Henrys (4sec) L G, Davidson (Osec) 2. Also started —W. Palmer (Bsec), D. Higgle (ssec), W. Lomas (Isec). K. Robert.son (scr). Time, 33 3-5 sec. Won by a foot. ' Third heat—T. Duffy (4sec) 1, E. Nelson (scr) 3. Also started-nrT. H. King Oreo), S. Shearer (Osec). F. Eoynolds (ssec). 0. Burns (Isec). Time, 34 3-Seec. A verv close finish resulted, inches only separating the first two men. Fourth heat—W. O'Meara (6sec) 1, H. W. Harris (13sec) 2. Also started— F. Eoberts (scr), .1. Shearer (Isec), MoCaskey (4seo), A. Caifns (4sec), F. Webster (14sec). Time, 35sec. The winner finished ’three feet ahead of the second man. The final will be decided this evening.
