MEETING 'OF THE COUNCIL. The monthly "meeting of the Hutt County Councils nan held yesterday. There were. present:—Councillors M. W. Welch (chairman), 'J. "Wakeham, W. Galloway, T. Edwards, J. Whiteman, and AV. J.•;Howell. The difficulty of ascertaining the names of motor' owners through the numbers on. the cars was brought before the,council by the Hutt Borough Council,, which:.,pointed out that' a number on a car registered by the county was,- found not to have been transferred'when the car was sold.— Tho matter’was left in the hands of tho clerk.

Mr J. Walker submitted a claim amounting to £165 3s 6d for severance of land by a county road.—lt was decided to take the land under tho Public Works Act, and Councillors Whiteman and Galloway were deputed to wait upon Mr Walker and acquaint him of the decision and have the claims in respect of tho road brought to a finality. An application from Mr C. C. ,Odlin, that the Waikanae-Upper Hutt road be widened, was granted to the extent of filling in some slight subsidences that have taken place. Hr J. AV. Cubby (overseer) reported that the drains had been cleaned out at Day's Bay and the stagnant-water complained of carried away. The culvert opposite Sir John Findlay’s residence was found to be too small, and the putting in of a larger one was recommended. The bridge near Mr Skerrett’o house had been redecked and planks had been renewed on the Day’s Bay bridge. Hayward’s road had received attention, and work on tho Cottle-Normandale road was. in hand. To facilitate the work it was recommended that an extra man be employed for three months. A dangerous portion of the Pahautanui-Paremata road was being cut back to the extent of eight feet, and the spoil used for the straightening of tho road. A complaint that the erosion of land in the Akatarawa river was endangering White bridge was not borne out by inspection. Plans were being prepared for tho AVharemuku bridge, and the work was to bo put in hand immediately. The formation of 25 chains of Mungako-Tukutuku road has been carried out and specifications Tor metalling were submitted to the Public Works Department.—The report was adopted. Accounts amounting to £544 18s 3d were passed for payment.
