AGRICULTURAL BOARD

A NOMINEE MR RICHARD DINGLE RECOMMENDED. Special to the “Times.” STRATFORD, February 9. At the conference of the Stratford, Taranaki, and Egmont Agricultural and Pastoral Associations to-day at Stratford it was decided to recommend to the Minister for Agriculture for appointment to the proposed board of agriculture, as Taranaki’s member, Mr Richard Dingle. Mr Dinglo was born on a. farm near New Plymouth sixtytwo years ago, and has been a farmer all his life. He was among the , electors on the fertile Wairaate Plains in South Taranaki and assisted materially in organising the Otakehou CoOperative Dairy Company, which was probably the second concern of its kind formed by the Taranaki farmers, the pride of place going to the Cardiff Company. Later ho was one of the promoters of the Kaponga Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, and, coming to Stratford, was about twelve years ago elected chairman of directors of the Stratford Farmers’ Co-operative Association, one of the biggest butter producing concerns in the Dominion. That position he has hold ever since. Ho has at all times been a strong advocate of herd-testing, and testing the yield of individual cows, and as a result of practice himself has now built up oue of the best butter-fat producing herds in the district. He has also experimented largely on pasture improvement, and has a handy little farm of 77 acres, which produced butter-, fat worth over £C2 in November, the flush month of this season, despite the fact that nearly all the animals were heifers. Mr Dingle is a director ol the freezing works and Butter and Cheese Box Making Company, and a member of the executive and ex-presi-dent of the Stratford Agricultural and Pastoral Association. His appointment is one that should give very general s'atisfaction, to Taranaki producers. The only other nominee was Mr B. Lysaght, put forward by the Egmont (Hawera) Association.
