THE TUNNEL TRAGEDY

PROTECTION DEMANDED FOR RESCUE TRAIN. Oy Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright NEW YORK. February’ 8. In connection with the train disaster in the tunnbl at Juarez, tho Juarez telegram adds that a .special train with coffins has been dispatched from tho American side to investigate. Other indications point to Castilio having sent a burning freight train, with tho object of blocking the tunnel. Mr Bryan (Secretary of State) hae demanded that the Mexican rebel forces shall dispatch troops to prevent Castilio attacking the American rescue train.

WHAT RESCUE PARTY FOUND

(Received February 10, 0.40 a.m.) WASHINGTON, February 9.

A report from Chihuahua states that nothing but charred bones and buttons was found by the rescue party, which, by tho aid of oxygen helmets and pu lino tors, succeeded in penetrating the Cumbra tunnel as far as tho locomotive and the first two cars of the passenger train. The remains are supposed to have been those of the fireman and engineer of th'o illfated train.

It is now believed that every one of the fifty or more passengers (including the crow) are dead. Whether tho train was hurried into the tunnel to escape capture by Castillo’s bandits or was sent headlong, to destruction by the bandits may never bo known.
