GROCERY BURNED
NARROW ESCAPE OF OCCUPANTS Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 9. A grocery store and dwelling, op* posite the tram barn at Epsom, was totally destroyed by fire early thw morning. The premises were owned and occupied by Mrs Mills. When tha fire broke out all the occupants of tha house (Mrs Mills, five children, and a girl) were asleep. Mrs Mills awakened to find the house on fire, and tha flames coming from the direction of the kitchen. She promptly awakened the other inmates, and all got safely out of the house. A tramway night shift of twenty men turned water on the flames, and the Newmarket Fira Brigade arrived later, but they could only save the adjoining buildings. Nothing wag saved from Mrs Mills’s house or the grocery store. The bouse was insured for £420, the furniture for £2OO, and the stock for £250, all in the Phoenix office.
