From Our Own Correspondent. December 25. Mr and Mrs McAllum, who have relinquished charge of St. Andrew’s Church Sunday school at Martinborongh, after having conducted it for about four years, have been presented by the teachers and scholars with a handsome piece of plate as a mark of esteem.

Messrs F. P. Welch and W. K. Welch, of Masterton, will leave on Friday on a trip to the South Island. The following officers have been elected in connection with the Pahiatua Rechabites’ Lodge:—C.B., Bro. F. Punch; D.R., Bro. A. East; secretary, Bro. Roberts; treasurer, Sister Punch; B. and C., Bro. S. Grinlinton; G. and L., Bro. E. Howe. A sixty-six-yards handicap was got off last night by the Masterton Swimming Club, and resulted as follows: G. Forman, scr, 1; M. Fly, Bsec, 2; D. Welch scr, 3. The time was 39sec. The following teams will compete in the ambulance competition at the Wairarapa Caledonian sports on New Year’s Day.—Napier, Wellington A, Wellington B, and Waingawa. Miss Palmer, the head teacher of the Hopelands school, who has resigned her position in order to get married, has been presented by the residents of t the district with a set of toiler requisites, and by the school children with a sil-ver-mounted scent bottle. Among the amateur athletes who will compete at the Wairarapa Caledonian sports on New Year’s Day are E. L. Parker (D.S.A.), E. R. Caughey (U.S.A.), R, R. Templeton (D.S.A.), and J, A. Power (U.S.A.), G. P. Keddell (Southland), C. E. Robertson (Southland), L. J. Mark (Auckland), P. G. Doyle, F. Hubbard, A. T. Duncan. and M. P. Pool (Wellington).
