MR MYERS IN LONDON
VIEWS ON LOANS AND DEFENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association—"opyrlght LONDON, December 22. The Agents-Goneral entertained Mr A. M. Myers, ex-Minietcr for Defence in New Zealand, at luncheon at the Colonial Institute. Major-General Bevan Edwards, who presided, recalled that lie had inspected the Now Zealand forces in 1882, and there was no finer material for soldiers in the world. Mr Myers dealt with finance and defence. He justified New Zealand loans on the ground that the money was devoted to reproductive works. Australia, Canada, and Now Zealand should unite to relieve Great Britain of tho defence of the Pacific. [Major-General J. Bevan Edwards, C. 8., at the time commanding the troops in China and Hongkong, made a report on tho New Zealand Defence Forces in 1889, which report was presented to Parliament in 1890.]
