ELECTION OF SPEAKER. By Teles re.ph—Pre*s Aenoolatlon—OopyrlsliK (Received December 23, 10.40 p.m.}, SYDNEY, December 23. The new Parliament was opened by Commission. The.members were sworn in. The Governor’s message simply referred bo the selection of a Speaker and the passing of Supply. Mr Dick Meagher, the Caucus norninee, was the only candidate and waa elected Speaker. Before meeting the House the caucus discussed the claims of Mr Morton, the late Speaker, Mr MoGowcn, and Mr Meagher for the Speakership,, The voting gave'Mr Meagher a majority over the combined votes of the other two.
