THE CHRISTMAS MEETING. It Is noted with general' regret that Caughcy'e figures cannot stand as a Now Zealand record for putting the shot. When weighed the shot was found to be 2oz short of the required 161 b. This fact discloses a little negligence on the part of the gear committee which it la hoped will not bo repeated at the Wellington meeting. As there is every chance of a Zealand record being broken every care’ should be taken that record conditions are complied with. If the present weather continues more than one New Zealand record may be expected to go by the board. With such sprinters as Parker, Duncan, and Mark porfoiming on the fast track at the Athletic Park some remarkable times should bo registered. It is doubtful whether Power will be able to reproduce his best form in the half-mile and the mile. This is rather unfortunate, as his time of imin 17seo for the mile stamps him .as a runner of the front rank. Templeton and Keddell, over the 120yds hurdles, should prove a big draw. Then again it will be interesting to see them over the 75yds hurdles, as this is a new race hero. If Templeton fails .at the hurdles he will have a chance of establishing records at both the high jump and the pole vault. All the New Zealand talent may be relied on to give of their best, and that is sufficient to ensure a good programme. McHolm, the holder of the Australasian record for throwing the hammer, is in good form and should prove a big attraction. , __ _ , , Tho enterprise of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association in bringing the American visitors to New Zealand is worthy of public support, and it is to be hoped that their efforts will bear fruit in the shape of a large attendance of the public on Boxing Day and the following day at the Athletic Park.
