V 3 <J&* aa fft I . \' & // fSA -V5 rP* /// s/*' a GROW APPL AND GROW RICH FRUST=(jROWING offers one of the best and surest opportunities of securing a competency. I nearly said chances instead of opportunities, but that would have been wrong. There’s nothing of the chance nature about it. Too much fruit cannot be grown ; there is a ready market waiting for all that can be produced. Last year hundreds of thousands worth of orders were turned down from England and America, besides which there’s Europe literally shrieking for supplies. New Zealand fruit finds a ready sale at high prices abroad because the quality is so excellent. it is certain that fruit lands will go up In value, Already Ruby Bay lands have been re=sold at much enhanced prices. After all, land which can produce from £BO to £3OO per acre per annum is worth a great deal more than the Ruby Bay people are asking. Just compare fruit with dairy farming. In this latter the best return that can be expected is £ls per acre per annum, and land that will produce that sells readily at £6O per acre. You must remember, too, that dairy farming involves a very great deal of labour ; usually from 3 a.m. until dark every day in the year including Sundays, Now, then, if the best dairy land is worth £6O per acre under those conditions what is fruit land worth that produces from £BO to £3OO per acre in the year? This must make you realise that fruit lands will appreciate in value rapidly. I cannot make the prospects there are in fruit growing too glowing, and my statements, although quite true, ought to be investigated by every contemplating purchaser. Make your own enquiries, do and find out from the growers themselves what they’re doing, and what they’ll tell and prove to you will seem as a fairy tale to what I’ve said. You will then accuse me of understating instead of overstating existing facts. Last year from 3 acres one man netted over £I,OOO growing strawberries. If you think this is exaggeration, come I’ll give the grower’s name and address, and forfeit a substantial sum if I’ve overstated the sum earned. I have some thousands of acres, and could not cultivate more than 100 acres, so I’m selling the bulk of my estate because it does* not pay to run sheep on land of Ruby Bay description. Fruit Exportation will rival Dairy Produce in the next few years. 1 i w m m & & £0 AH the big commercial men realise that, anti the Government will foster and stimulate fruit growing. The Fruit Preserving industry Bill which has Just passed the second reading proves this latter contention. The Prime Minister in moving the second reading of this Bill said: “ The Export of Apples this year has doubled that of the previous year. They were continually receiving requests from outside countries for supplies of apples. The fruit grown in Nelson would compare favourably with that grown in any other part of the world.” The Prime Minister was congratulated by Government and Opposition members alike on his Bill which provides for the advances of money for the purpose of establishing fruit preserving works at a low rate of interest —they all recognised that the industry was a sound one deserving fostering. There isn't a better investment than Fruit Lands at Ruby Bay for the man who acts promptly. The land there contains the necessary elements for the growing of the best quality of fruit . There are no late frosts, no high winds, and plenty of sunshine. AH the leading fruit experts have property either in the Ruby Bay Estate or as close to it as they could get. Ruby Bay is close to Nelson, is visited frequently by steamers to and from Wellington, and besides being most convenient for shipping produce to the market is one of the prettiest and healthiest spots In New Zealand.
