NEW ZEALANDERS ON TOUR ' LATEST MAIL NEWS. LONDON, November 13. Mr C. F. Bickford, of Auckland, loft London for Brindisi, on Friday, to join the Malwa at Port Said on his return home. Mrs Pictot, mother of Mrs John Burgess, wifo of the well-known Wanganui engineer, who is also a director in several London companies, died at Sutton last week. Mr A. F. W. Lone, of the Waikato, has been travelling on the Continent for some little time, and is now staying at Nice, where ho may take a flat permanently. Mr Charles C. Readc, late editor of the “New Zealand Graphic,” who is going out to New Zealand on a town planning tour, has returned to London after spending two mouths in Germany. Mr G. M. Chapman, M.R.C.S., a son of His Honour Mr Justice Chapman, of New Zealand, who recently gained his M.B. at Cambridge, has been appointed receiving room officer at the London Hospital. Mr and Mrs John Hessey, of Masterton, have been since October 4th in Italy, staying in a villa overlooking the Bay of Spezia. They spend a few days in Florence and Rome, and sail for home from Naples in the Orvieto on November 29th.

Mr C. Hall, who was a member of the New Zealand Parliament for over twenty years, is at present in Yorkshire, and last week, in an interview which appeared in the “Malton Messenger,” lie highly extolled the Dominion’s defence scheme. Mrs J. M. Williamson, of Wanganui and Hawcra, who has done a good deal of lecturing in New Zealand, arrived in London List week, and left again almost immediately with a party of friends for a couple of months on the Continent. Mr Major C. Ormandy, of Christchurch, was awarded, in October, the Diploma of Merit of the Institute of British Tailoring and a bronze badge for special proficiency in designing and cutting overgarments, at the recent students’ examinations held by that body. Ho arrived in August, and will probably remain here for twelve months. The Rev. H. Stubbs, who has been spending the summer holidays in England, returned to New Zealand on November sth via the West Indian Islands, the Southern States of America, the Sandwich Islands, and Fiji, and hopes to reach New Zealand in November, 1914. Ho proposes publishing some account of his travels. Mr W. Mclntosh, of Auckland, after six weeks in London, joined Dr and Mrs Hope Lewis, of Auckland, 'in a motor tour of Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and the West of England, after which he travelled for six weeks in Holland, Germany, and Belgium. He has also paid visits to relatives in England, and intends to travel througn France, Switzerland, and Italy during the winter, returning to New'Zealand by the Orsova on February 21st. Callers at the High Commissioner’s office last week included Mr and Mrs R. A. Green (Christchurch), Mr Grapheme F. Miohie (Wellington), Mr J. B. Gaisford, Mr B. Kahn (Wellington), Mr and Mrs A. Richmond (Taranaki), Miss P. Shoord (Christchurch), Miss A. B. Nicoll (Blenheim), Mr C. A. Fox (Gust), Mr C. F. Bickford (Auckland), Mr J. Howley (Christchurch), Mr S. Clayton Thome (Auckland), Mr N. and Miss N. Ashton (Auckland). The first whist drive of the season was given by the New Zealand Association at the Westminster Palace Hotel last week, when there were 7B players. The first prize, a lady’s fitted handbag, fell to Mrs Foden; the second, a silver and cut-glass scent bottle, to Mrs W. J., John; that for a lady playing as a gentleman to Mrs Mason, while Mr Richard Pain and Mr Joseph Michael carried off the men’s prizes. Mr R. H. Abbott, his daughter .Miss F. Abbott, and Airs Ritchie, his sister-in-law, of Auckland, arrived in England in September after travellnig in South America. They have just returned to Loudon after a motor tour through the South and West of England, and leave on November 20th for Paris, Brussels, Germany and Australia, thenco to Trieste, en route for India.
